The police station was among those surviving handful and identifiable structures of the Asaf Jahi period. It was reportedly built during reign of the seventh Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan and it stood across the road close to Mozzam Jahi Market, another heritage building, representing the rich cultural significance of this area.

Sources say that Goshamahal police station was pulled down due to road widening which made the cleared way for the Hyderabad Metro Rail. Now, sources say that a swankier police station is being built while the bill is being footed by the HMR.

Heritage experts have expressed outrage saying that the police stations of Nizam era were built in a fashion such that they are instantly recognisable to locals and foreigners alike.  Many say that no CM of United AP had been so negligent towards demolishing old structures like the current Telangana government.
