It is quite common in India for people
to use pirated softwares. An Indian textile company has used a pirated
software and has been caught red handed. They also agreed to pay penalty
of USD 100,000$. This amount is equal to Rs.66 lakhs in Indian amount.
They
have decided to settle the charges of using pirated softwares. The
Textile company named, Pratibha Syntex Ltd is at Madhya Pradesh. They
export clothes to leading American companies and this also includes
Walmart.
As per the settlement reached,
which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and has been approved by a
judge, the textile company has agreed to pay USD 100,000 in restitution
within 30 days. Regarding this California Attorney General Kamala
Harris said,
"Pratibha Syntex engaged in
illegal business practices that placed California garment companies at a
disadvantage, while hurting American software companies' ability to
develop new and innovative products. Businesses all over the globe
should be on notice that the state of California will hold them for
stealing without fare payment."
