There has been lots of trouble in
Chennai due to floods and torrential rains. Things are completely
shattered and just now people are turning back to normal state. But once
again the rains are back and it started to affect the people. Train
services were suspended due to incessant rains.
Due
to rains, water logs and swamps were a common occurrence. And to avoid
loss of lives, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board started to stop the
electricity. Most areas were still without electricity and in other
areas the power was restored after 5 days.
In
this case, The Department of Posts has decided to tap solar energy to
manage disruption in power. The state Electricity board already was
asking everyone to move to solar energy in case of emergency.
A
press release said, "The Department of Posts has initiated action for
installation of Solar Power packs in order to provide solar backup
during power shutdown." Apart from post offices some residences in
Chennai also had solar power and they had no power interruption. Hope
the rains have taught a good lesson.
