Though the year saw many technological
advancements and innovations, it is impossible for a year to get through
without any mess. After presenting the innovative ideas of past year in
the previous days, here we bring you the fallouts of the year. The top 5
Tech fails of the year are below for your eyes.
1. Hot/Heating Processor
Qualcomm
Snapdragon 820 SoC seems to be perhaps the best-realized failures of
the year. The flagship processor, which was expected to revolutionize
the industry, got stumbled with its heating problem. The first blow came
for the company from Samsung dropping its SoC from their devices. On
the other hand, its arch-rivals, MediaTek and Huawei headed the market
with their brand SoCs.
It
is not easier to forget the Airtel’s Zero Hour campaign this year. The
mass outrage over the initiative sparked the net neutrality controversy
in India, for the first time. The concept was strongly criticized for
favoring the behemoth corporate world, at the cost of common people.
However, the company failed to bring the issue to pass, and finally
dropped the initiative after misinformation spread across social media
and forums.
3. Internet.org
After
the net neutrality woke up the government to handle the issue, Facebook
CEO Mark Zuckerberg took this mainstream subject in Internet.org
programme, which is called the Free Basics now. The company fueled the
same concept allowing its users to browse free web pages, in the name of
bringing internet to under-privileged people. But that was not the
entire face of it, the ‘free’ was limited to Reliance’s networks alone,
not to mention the access to Facebook website, surely a mismated
business tactic.
