The new capital city of Andhra
Pradesh, Amaravati, would be reportedly getting the legal backing soon from the
Centre. This would ensure that Amaravati will remain the capital forever for
the state of AP, irrespective of whichever political party comes later to power
in AP.
The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu seems to have impressed upon the NDA government over giving legal backing to Amaravati since Opposition leader Y S Jagan made repeated statements that if he comes to power, he will be shifting the capital city from Amaravati to a suitable location.
He also vowed to return all the lands there of farmers which were acquired forcibly by the AP government. After Naidu's request, PM Narendra Modi reportedly asked the union home minister Rajnath Singh to amend the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
This will reportedly give legal backing to Amaravati so that it remains AP’s capital city forever. The NDA will propose this amendment in the ensuing winter session of the Parliament which will begin soon.
