A new 'Gene' which makes bacteria resistant to antibiotics is found
Researchers has found a new gene by using a Danish database of bacterial DNA samples. The person was suffering from a blood infection and give samples of blood helped them. A gene that makes bacteria resistant to last-resort antibiotics has been found in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This was first identified by researchers in China. The gene which was found in Southern China is called as MCR-1. This makes bacteria resistant to a class of antibiotics and they are also known as polymyxins. These polymyxins are used to fight super bugs.

Regarding this, Technical University of Denmark said in a statement that, "Bacteria with the same resistance gene have now also been found in Denmark. This is indeed a new achievement in research."

Professor Frank Moller Aarestrup who is a microbiologist at the University said that they are still unaware about the origin. He also said that he is concerned as the gene is just found in one patient and they never found in any other patient. In Denmark, the gene has so far only been found in bacteria that can be treated with other types of antibiotics.
