The state of Telangana has made an
announcement that it needed a sum of 2514 Crores as drought relief from
the centre. Chief secretary Rajiv Sharma informed the centre that the
state needs the amount to compensate the crop losses due to monsoon
failure.
Utpal Kumar Singh who is
the joint secretary in the Union agriculture ministry is paying visit to
Telangana for two days to analyze the drought situation. State
Government Officials are also likely to meet him and explain the
situation.
He also visits the drought
hit areas. Regarding this Rajeev Sharma said, "Telangana State
Government has asked for relief fund of Rs.2514 Crores. The drought
situation is prevailing in the state.
We
have requested inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) to recommend on
seeing the reality happening and overcome the distress situation." We
already reported that as the normal June rains were missing this year,
lots of crops failed and farmers are suffering badly. The Ground water
has also reduced drastically.
